Get Started with Need Line

At Need Line participants are our priority. Our desire is to assist any person that is in need in the Murray-Calloway County area. In order to be considered for services at Need Line, all participants must:

  • Come in-person to Need Line.

  • Complete our Need Line application

  • Provide proof of residency in Murray-Calloway County

  • Provide proof of income or get the “proof of no income form” from Need Line notarized

  • Complete any needed paperwork for the specific program or service

  • Meet the income requirements of the program or service they are seeking.

Food Programs
 and Services

  • USDA Commodity Food (TEFAP)
    This federal program assists low-income families that meet the Federal Income Poverty Guidelines in receiving food. The USDA provides 100% American-grown foods.

  • Commodities Supplemental Food Program (CSFP-Senior Program)
    This program works to improve the health of low-income elderly people who are 60 years of age and older by providing them with food monthly.

  • The Pantry Food Program
    The community provides this food. This program is based on need and/or income. A participant can receive this six times a year.

  • Homeless Program
    This program offers food, cleaning, and hygiene supplies to the homeless six times per year.

  • Starter Boxes
    This program provides basic (Starter) food and hygiene items to participants who are moving into transitional housing, shelter, or other safe homes and are starting anew.

  • Need Line’s Back-Pack Food Program
    This ten-month program provides food bags each Friday afternoon to children identified by the schools in need to eat over the weekend. Children from both school districts, city and county, and all grades are served. Food for this program is donated by the community. 

  • Christmas Food Box Program
    This is a once-a-year food program. This box contains all the foods to make a Christmas meal.

  • Nutritional Drinks
    Provides Ensure and Boost to those in need who require extra nutrition, but cannot afford the per-month cost. These are provided as needed and in stock. 

  • Community Food Drive-Thru
    This is food from our pantry and Feeding America, to help community residents who have a need. All they must provide is proof of residency in Murray-Calloway County.

Other Programs and Services

  • The Emergency Program
    This program assists families and individuals in ways such as crisis, rent, utilities, life-sustaining medication, or out-of-town medical travel who meet Need Line requirements.

  • Baby Program
    This program provides formula, baby food, wipes, and other baby products we have in stock for families in need monthly.

  • Angels Attic Voucher
    This voucher provides a person or family with items needed due to a disaster and has no other resources.

  • Cleaning and Hygiene Program
    Provides items such as toilet paper, soap, diapers, deodorant, shampoo, toothpaste, toothbrushes, and laundry detergent that are donated by the community.

  • Blanket and Fan Programs
    These programs provide eligible individuals and families with a blanket in the winter months and a fan during the summer months. The community donates all fans and blankets.

  • Vision Assistance Program
    This program assists low-income individuals with referrals to an eye doctor or the Lyons Club.

  • Medical Paperwork Aide
    We can assist with the paperwork and advise you about what other papers/information you may need to apply for the assistance, and we will send you to the hospital, to the proper location, or the person you may need to talk with. 

  • Nutritional information, Financial Information,
    and Community Information

    This service provides participants with helpful information such as how to read the nutritional value on the side of a food can, recipes using some of the foods received from Need Line, how to budget properly, and what’s going on in Murray/Calloway County or with other organizations.

  • Referral Service
     If you come to Need Line and we are unable to assist, we will do our best to find a way to help. Need Line may refer you to another organization that might be able to provide the help you need.

We understand that our current economic situation can be challenging for some families to provide for their basic needs, for the last 50 years Need Line has been assisting Murray and Calloway County Kentucky Residents with the most basic human needs - food, shelter and life-sustaining medication.
